THEN GOD SHOWED UP

When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted. I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. InterludeYou don’t let me sleep.  I am too distressed even to pray! I think of the good old days,
long since ended, when my nights were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and ponder the difference now. Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? Has God forgotten to be gracious?  Has he slammed the door on his compassion? Interlude10 And I said, “This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.”

11 But thenI recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of log ago. 12 They are constantly in my thoughts.  I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works. 13 O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? Psalm 77

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. But David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. 18 Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.19 And David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand.” 20 And David came to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there. And he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me like a breaking flood.” Therefore the name of that place is called Baal-perazim. 21 And the Philistines left their idols there, and David and his men carried them away. II Samuel 5

I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4: 13)

God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others

…he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. 11Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. II Corinthians 9

  1. Seek the Lord

How long will you forget me? Forever?

How long will you look the other way?

How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day?

How long will my enemy have the upper hand? Psalm 13

Psalm 77:1 I cry out to God; yes, I shout.Oh, that God would listen to me!2 When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven,

And David inquired of the Lord,II Samuel 5

If you seek God, your God, you’ll be able to findhim if you’re serious, looking for him with your whole heart and soul. When troubles come and all these awful things happen to you,in future days you will come back to God, your God, and listen obediently to what he says. God, your God, is above all a compassionate God. In the end he will not abandon you, he won’t bring you to ruin, Deuteronomy 4

“When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen.13-14 “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree. “I’ll turn things around for you. Jeremiah 29

Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, 6 ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ 7 And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ 8 But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.9 “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11
