DAILY BATTLES / NOTES

King Nahash of Ammon died, and his son Hanun became king. 2 David said, “Nahash was kind to me, and I will be kind to his son.” So, he sent some officials to the country of Ammon to tell Hanun how sorry he was that his father had died. 3 But Hanun’s officials told him, “Do you really believe David is honoring your father by sending these people to comfort you? He probably sent them to spy on our city, so he can destroy it.” 4 Hanun arrested David’s officials and had their beards shaved off on one side of their faces. He had their robes cut off just below the waist, and then he sent them away. 5 They were terribly ashamed. When David found out what had happened to his officials, he sent a message and told them, “Stay in Jericho until your beards grow back. Then you can come home.” 6 The Ammonites realized that they had made David very angry, so they hired more foreign soldiers. Twenty thousand of them were foot soldiers from the Aramean cities of Beth-Rehob and Zobah, one thousand were from the king of Maacah, and twelve thousand were from the region of Tob. 7 David heard what they had done, and he sent out Joab with all of his well-trained soldiers. 8 The Ammonite troops came out and got ready to fight in front of the gate to their city. The Arameans from Zobah and Rehob and the soldiers from Tob and Maacah formed a separate group in the nearby fields. 9 Joab saw that he had to fight in front and behind at the same time, and he picked some of the best Israelite soldiers to fight the Arameans. 10 He put his brother Abishai in command of the rest of the army and had them fight the Ammonites. 11 Joab told his brother, “If the Arameans are too much for me to handle, you can come and help me. If the Ammonites are too strong for you, I’ll come and help you. 12 Be brave and fight hard to protect our people and the cities of our God. I pray that the Lord will do whatever pleases him.” 13 Joab and his soldiers attacked the Arameans, and the Arameans ran from them. 14 When the Ammonite soldiers saw that the Arameans had run away, they ran from Abishai’s soldiers and went back into their own city.

17 David ….brought Israel’s whole army together. They crossed the Jordan River and went to Helam, where the Arameans were ready to meet them. 18 The Arameans attacked, but then they ran from Israel. David killed seven hundred chariot drivers and forty thousand cavalry. II Samuel 10

Ridiculous things that wars are fought over

A shaved beard in II Samuel 10

Nika War In 532 AD,Emperor Justinian—and all of it in the name of chariot racing. The races held at Constantinople’s hippodrome had soared in popularity during the sixth century Conflict erupted in January 532, when Emperor Justinian refused to release two members of the Blues and Greenswho had been condemned to death. In a rare instance of unity, the two factions banded together and began to riot. In a few short days, they had burned the headquarters of the city prefect, clashed with imperial guards and even attempted to crown a new emperor. Faced with a full-scale revolution, Justinian finally resolved to put down the rebellion by force. After bribing the Blues to gain their support, the emperor launched a devastating assault on the remaining hooligans. By the end of the attack, the riots had been quelled and some 30,000 membersof the mob lay dead around the grounds of the hippodrome.

A Stray Doginadvertently triggered an international crisis. The incident was the culmination of a long period of hostility between Greece and Bulgaria, which had been at odds since the Second Balkan War in the 1910s. Tensions finally boiled over in October 1925, when a Greek soldier was shot after allegedly crossing the border into Bulgaria while chasing after his runaway dog. An international committee later negotiated a ceasefire between the two nations, but not before the misunderstanding had resulted in the deaths of some 50 people.

The Pastry War In 1828, angry mobs destroyed large parts of Mexico City during a military coup. One of the victims of the rioting was an expatriate French pastry chef named Remontel, whose small café was ransacked by looters. Mexican officials ignored his complaints, so Remontel petitioned the French government for compensation. His request sat unnoticed until a decade later, when it came to the attention of King Louis-Philippe.The king was already furious that Mexico had failed to repay millions in loans, and now he demanded they pay 600,000 pesos to compensate the pastry chef for his losses. When the Mexicans still refused to pay up, the ships began shelling the San Juan de Ulua citadel. A few minor battles followed, and by December as many as 250 soldiers had been killed. The famous general Santa Anna even came out of retirement to lead the Mexican army against the French, and he lost a leg after he was wounded by grapeshot. Fighting finally ended in March 1839, when the British government helped broker a peace deal. As part of the treaty, the Mexicans were forced to shell out the 600,000 pesos—

The Oak Bucket War happened in Italy in 1325. The rival city-states of Bologna and Modena were constantly at each other's throats because Bologna backed the pope and Modena backed the Holy Roman Emperor. One day, some soldiers from Modena stole an oaken bucket from a Bolognese well. That moral outrage was excuse enough for Bologna to muster up an army because they just had to get that bucket back at all costs. The attack was a colossal failure, with over 30,000 Bolognese troops being routed by barely 7,000 Modena soldiers. Thousands died during the battle. But whatever, the important thing is that Modena kept the bucket,

Soccer Matchin 1969! Yep. The neighboring countries of El Salvador and Honduras had been bickering for a while over economic issues when the two teams faced off in qualifiers for the 1970 FIFA World Cup. After splitting their two matches, they played a winner-take-all playoff game. All three games were marred by escalating rioting between fans. El Salvador won the match, but that apparently didn't satisfy them. Honduras ended diplomatic relations on the day they lost. Within a couple weeks, El Salvador declared war on Honduras and began bombing raids. The war lasted for five days, racking up thousands of casualties

The enemy will attack you at every point when God is about to use you.

  1. The enemy attacked Joseph through his family through his brothers even his mother and father.
  2. David was attacked by his own family leaders of coming down to see the fight.
  3. Elijah was attacked by the government “you troubler of Israel.”
  4. Jesus was attacked by both political leaders and the religious leaders.
  5. Paul was attacked by religious leaders.

Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”4“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ 5and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”  Matthew 19

Husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered. husbands must live with your wives with the proper understanding that they are more delicate than you. I Peter 3:7

Ruth Graham says a marriage is based on two good forgivers.

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. Ephesians 5

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Romans 5:7-8

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5

Jesus Christ came to this Earth on a Rescue Mission.

The Bible says that he came to seek and save the Lost. He didn't come for the saved he came for the unsaved, he didn't come for the healthy came for those that were sick and that included all of us.

Only Jesus can meet your deepest needs like that woman at the well she was married five times and living with a man that wasn't her husband. She thought she could find fulfillment / happiness in a relationship, but she just kept going from husband to husband and Jesus said if you drink this water you will never thirst again. Jesus is offering you this water this morning.

KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Communication
  • Forgiveness
  • Restoration of Blessing

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32

17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life Revelation 22
